further to amend the University of Peshawar Act, 1974. .

Preamble

WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the University of Peshawar Act, (N. W. F. P. Act II of 1974).

It is hereby enacted as follows:

Short title and commencement.

1.         (1) This Act may be called the University of Peshawar (Amendment) Act, 1977.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

Amendment of section 2 of N.W.F.P. Act II of 1974

2.         In the University of Peshawar Act, 1974 (N. W. F. P. Act If of 1974), hereinafter referred to as the said Act, in section 2, after clause (m), the following new clause shall be inserted, namely: —

"(mm) 'Pro-Chancellor' means the Pro-Chancellor of the University;".

Amendment of section 3 of N.W.F.P. Act II of 1974	3.         In the said Act, in section 3, in sub-section (2), in clause (i), between of the words and comma "the Chancellor," and the words "the Vice-chancellor”, the Pro-Chancellor," shall be inserted.
Amendment of section 9 of N.W.F.P. Act II of 1974	4.         In the said Act, in section 9, after clause (i). the following new clause shall be inserted, namely: —

"(ia) the Pro-Chancellor;".

Insertion of Section IIA to N.W.F.P. Act II of 1974

5.         In the said Act, after section 11, the following new section shall be inserted, namely:—

"IIA. Pro-Chancellor. — (l)The Minister for Education of the Government of the North-West Frontier Province shall be the Pro-Chancellor of the University, ex-officio".

6.         In the said Act, in section 19,—             (a)     in sub-section (i), after clause (i), the following new clause shall be inserted, namely:—

Amendment of section 19 of N.W.F.P. Act II of 1974

            "(ia)  the Pro-Chancellor; "; and
            (b)    for sub-section (2), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:—
"(2) The Chancellor shall be the Chairman of the Senate and shall preside at its meeting; and in his absence the Pro-Chancellor or, if he is also absent, the Vice-Chancellor shall preside.".
