ELECTRICITY RULES, 1937

(Procedure for the grant of permits to wiremen)

No.SO(POWER)(I&P) 802/2001.LB.MNT, dated 18-10-2004.---In pursuance of rule 48 of Electricity Rules, 1937 the Governor of Punjab is pleased to notify the following procedure for issuance of permit to Wireman by Regional Licensing Boards in Punjab constituted,--vide Notification No. SO (POWER) (I&P) 4-2/2002:

The following procedure shall be adopted for the grant of permit to the wireman, by the Regional Licensing Boards in Punjab:-‑

1. An applicant possessing minimum one year certificate course in electric trade from any Government Vocational Training Centre or Apprenticeship Training Institute/Centre or possessing equivalent qualification from any Government Institutions as may be determined by TEVTA shall be granted a permit for wireman in a form attached as Annex. W.

 2. The applicant shall submit -application to the Electric Inspector/Secretary Regional Licensing Board along with the following attachments;

(i) Attested copy of certificate.
(ii) Attested copy of N.I.C.
(iii) Attested copies of three passport size recent photographs.

 3. Secretary Licensing Board shall get a verification report of the certificate from issuing authority and place the case before the Board for consideration.

 4. Validity.--The permit for wireman shall be valid for four (4) years and will be renewed by the concerned Secretary Regional Licensing Board. The Secretary Licensing Board shall maintain an up-to-date "Grant & Renewal Record".

5. Duplicate Certificate.--A duplicate permit of wireman shall be issued in case the original permit is lost or destroyed or defaced, subject to submission of following documents with the written request of applicant:

(i) Press clipping regarding advertisement in newspaper.

(ii) Affidavit on judicial stamp paper of Rs.20/-- to the effect that the original has been lost/destroyed and if the original is found subsequently, the same shall be returned to the Secretary Licensing Board.

(iii) Copy of FIR with police authority regarding loss of permit.

(iv) Original permit, if damaged/defaced.

Wireman is required to carry out wiring works under the supervision of a person holding certificate of competency granted under Rule 48 of the Electricity Rules, 1937 and is responsible for quality of work. Permit issued to a wireman may be withdrawn or suspended by the ,Regional Licensing Board, if he is adjudged guilty of misconduct and malpractice in discharge of his duties doing his attachment with a licensed Electrical Contractor.
